Many of my clients admit that they live in clutter because they are terrified at the thought of having to let go of their things.
I believe that our perspective on things determines our decisions and actions. I have a few recommendations inspired by my work as KonMari -consultant that might help you see this topic a bit differently.
4 tips:
Don't force yourself to let go of things It’s like food—the more you tell yourself you can’t have it, the more you want it. The more you push yourself to let go, the more you feel like you need everything! Anxiety builds up, and you’re scared to even start going through your stuff. Give yourself space, time and permission to keep everything. Only you truly know how you feel about your clothes, books, and other belongings. The gentler you are with yourself, the clearer it will become what you truly need.
Don’t think it’s just about the quantity “If I could just get rid of half of my stuff, everything would be neat and beautiful!” That's not true! Believe me, there are people who have fewer things than you do, but they still struggle with clutter every day! ❗️Just getting rid of items won't magically create order. Proper organization is key to maintaining a tidy space.
Don’t compare yourself Don't compare yourself to friends, sisters, or mom who effortlessly tidy up and let go of items. The way they do it is neither better nor worse. You have your own relationship with things and with your home. Respect your feelings!
Focus on what you ENJOY! Don’t look for things to let go of. Instead, create order by asking yourself - what do I actually need? What do I enjoy using? Do i like this thing? This is a completely different approach!! It is about you, about your life! It's all about your relationship with your belongings. 💡 I'll create another post specifically addressing items we keep "just in case." If you struggle to tidy up because it is hard to let things go, feel free to reach out, and I'll be happy to help with a friendly approach to sorting and organizing.
